Today was the first time that I’ve ever taken Avery swimming and you would think he was at swim class every weekend. He LOVED it!!
I think we are going to spending more weekends at the pool with Avery’s friends and little cousins. Which means I need to work on my pool look. For starters, my bathing suit is from 2010. When I was skinny, had no cares in the world, and no Avery. I think it’s too small.
Also, I’m not planning to have the turban look in the pool all summer. I’m a black woman with natural hair who often wears my hair pressed out. That combo does not agree with swimming pools. Or rain. Or maybe even summertime period. So I’ve gotta find a hair solution that’s business savvy during the week and swim ready on the weekends.
Avery, on the other hand, is fully equipped for summertime at the pool. He’s got a couple of swim trunks, baby sunglasses, a hat for shade that he immediately threw in the pool as soon as we got in, and his swim diapers. He’s good to go!
The float that I have for Avery is called the Lil Skipper Baby Boat with Adjustable Backrest by SwimSchool. It’s a Level 1 for ages 6-18 months. I picked it up from Walmart and it’s perfect for Avery.
I started to get the one with the sun visor but then I didn’t want the eye rolls and comments of me “doing too much” but you know what I’m starting to think? If someone is mad because I put my child’s needs first and do the best for him that I can, then screw them. Never allow someone to prevent you from making, what you feel to be, the best decisions for you little one.
I will no longer be offended if someone tells me I do too much for my child. You should want to do too much for your child. That is now a compliment. Thx!
