Avery has tons of books to choose from when reading him goodnight stories. Around this time last year, I was single handily building up Avery’s nursery while recovering from kidney failure.
I remember going into TJ Maxx one day super inspired and picking up books left and right, briefly reading them, and then adding them to my shopping cart if they made the cut. I purchased so many books from TJ Maxx that the lady at the cash register asked me if I was opening a library. π³ No! I’m that over ambitious first time Momma that you always hear about. π
I purchased the books without even a shelf to place them on. When I designed Avery’s nursery, I was picking up things as I felt inspired by, knowing it would all come together in the end, and if not, knowing that I am the Queen of Returns and will be getting my money back regardless.
Shortly after, Avery’s room did come together and we began to spend more time in there. Remember, I didn’t have his nursery ready before he was born. Avery was born ahead of schedule when I was 7 months pregnant. And I had been placed on very strict, lay only on your side and only get up to use the bathroom, kind of bedrest at 6 months of pregnancy. Thank God for having a Mother who lived down the street who was able to come by daily to sit with me, drive me to doctors appointments and make sure I had all my meals.
I had no time to work on a nursery prior to delivery. I barely had a baby shower. I remember wanting to do my baby shower at 5 months of pregnancy because I just had a feeling that I needed to. Everyone looked at me crazy and my Mom convinced me it was too soon. By the time I had my baby shower at 6 months of pregnancy I was already on bedrest and on a leave from my job due to the conditions of my pregnancy. The day of the shower, my blood pressure was sky rocketing and I barely made it to the shower.
Looking back on how fleeting things were just a year ago, I have come to appreciate more than ever just how precious life truly is. There is a book “Goodnight Moon” that I used to struggle so hard to read to Avery just a year ago.
This book is literally 10 pages long and had maybe 10 words on each page, if that. But a year ago, with my kidney failure and anemia, this book seemed like the longest book in the world. I remember breaking down and just being so upset that I was struggling so hard to read this book to my babe.
Fast forward to today and now I love reading this book to Avery at bedtime. It’s so easy to read that I often read it twice and combine it with other books.
Other books you may want to add to your babes reading list:
- On The Night You Were Born
- Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
- The Snowy Day
- Little Blue Truck
- The Very Hungry Catepliar
- Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See
- My First Busy Book

- Five Little Monkeys Jumping On The Bed
